Question 1

What makes a smart lock secure?

Accepted Answer

A smart lock is more secure because it removes the need for physical keys, allowing you to give and revoke access with one tap instead of handing out keys that can be lost, copied or never returned. Some smart locks improve physical security by removing the external keyhole. Without a keyhole to target, common break-in methods are no longer possible. Bold smart locks do both. They replace your old cylinder with an SKG*** certified design that removes the keyhole entirely, so there is nothing to drill, pick or pull. The Bold app lets you give or revoke access instantly whenever you need to. Together with the lock’s strong hardware, this level of control makes Bold smart locks significantly more secure than a traditional cylinder with a key.

Question 2

Will a smart lock still work if the power or Wi-Fi goes out?

Accepted Answer

Most smart locks stay operational during power cuts or internet outages. They use an internal battery and communicate locally, so they don’t depend on your power supply. Even without Wi-Fi, they can still unlock through Bluetooth or other offline methods. Bold smart locks work in the same reliable way. They run entirely on batteries and continue functioning during power or Wi-Fi interruptions. You can activate them locally via Bluetooth, backup PIN or the Bold Clicker, so your door remains accessible even when your home or office has no power or internet connection.

Question 3

How long does the battery of a smart lock last?

Accepted Answer

Battery life differs between smart locks. Motorised models usually last only a few months because the motor uses power every time the lock turns, while more efficient designs can run much longer on a single battery. Some smart locks can even operate for multiple years without a battery replacement. Bold smart locks have a minimum battery life of around two years thanks to their manual turning mechanism, which uses very little energy. With Battery Saver mode enabled on the Bold Elite, they can even last up to eight years. You will also receive notifications and emails when the battery is getting low so you can replace it in time. These things keep maintenance low and predictable.

Question 4

Are smart locks easy to install?

Accepted Answer

Depending on the type of smart lock, you either attach it to the inside of the door or replace your existing cylinder. Bold smart locks use the second method and are installed in just five minutes. Remove your old cylinder, place the Bold smart cylinder in the door, and tighten the fixing screw. Once you complete the setup in the Bold app, the smart lock is ready to use, and no drilling or wiring is needed.

Question 5

Are smart locks safe to use at home?

Accepted Answer

Yes, smart locks are safe to use at home. In many cases, they are even more secure than a traditional lock. Smart locks remove the risks that come with physical keys because there are no spare keys that can be copied, lost or left in circulation when someone moves out. You manage access digitally, so you always decide who can enter and when. The Bold smart locks take this a step further. They replace your existing cylinder with an SKG*** certified and keyhole-free design. Since there is no external keyhole, common break-in methods such as picking or drilling the lock are no longer possible. This gives you stronger mechanical protection. On the digital side, the Bold app uses strong TLS encryption and gives you full control over your home. You can share access when needed, for example with guests, maintenance workers or deliveries, and remove it again instantly. This makes your door both secure and flexible.

Question 6

Are smart locks suitable for businesses or offices?

Accepted Answer

Yes, smart locks are suitable for businesses and offices. They can be very helpful because access is managed digitally instead of through physical keys or keycards. You can assign access, remove it instantly and avoid the hassle of handing out keys that may be lost or copied. Some smart lock brands also offer features designed specifically for business use, such as tools that help manage multiple doors or larger teams. Bold smart locks are built with this in mind. With Bold Pro, you can use a portal to manage many locks in one clear and organised overview. You can create user groups with specific access rights, such as suppliers who only need entry on certain days or employees who need access on all working days. This makes Bold suitable for every type of business, from restaurants and rental properties to large office spaces and multi-site organisations.
